Time Cannot be Managed

Is time management a myth?  Harold Taylor of Harold Taylor Time Consultants, Inc. contends that it is.  We are all provided with the same amount of time each day – we can use it wisely, or waste it, but we can’t save it.  And turning back time is proof positive that we have no control over time; we only have control over how we manage ourselves and the priorities we choose for ourselves.

This hit home especially hard this weekend.  The front page of today’s Tulsa World carries the story “Suicide: Hidden Epidemic.” Sadly this epidemic claimed another victim.  Yesterday, my husband was out front doing yard work when he heard the anguished cries of the dad across the street who just discovered his 19-year old son hanging from a tree in the backyard.  Can’t we just turn back time to Friday?

How are you managing your priorities?  Do your priorities match up with your core values?  Are you trying to do more things in less time, or have you considered doing fewer things of greater importance? Do you spend more time cultivating relationships online than you do with the ones who mean the most to you?

Before you make out that next to-do list trying to fit in tasks which don’t match up to your goals  … before you choose texting over listening to your child …  before you take on that next project because you don’t know how to say “no” …  pause and connect with what’s really important in your life.
